We are looking for a Director of Architecture with a high level of creativity, talent and experience to lead and work on the design and execution of high-profile complex projects throughout the Latin American region, from concept to its execution and delivery. We are interested in finding an innovative professional who can adapt into Mallol's culture of success, with extensive experience in the field of architecture, supervising all aspects related to the design of the firm's projects, including client´s relations, "project management" and other administrative management duties.
We are looking for a leader immersed in all aspects related to sustainability committed to pursue new design and business strategies, to develop and increase the level of knowledge in his team, in terms of: design, energy efficiency, water conservation and waste management. He is responsible for Mallol's architectural quality and design line.
Within the main responsibilities of the Director of Architecture are the following categories:
DESIGN
- Lead the conceptualization of all projects
- Coordinate with clients to determine design requirements, including review of sketches and models together.
- Oversee and be responsible for the design, presentations, submissions, project development, and schedule of deliverables, providing design direction and consistently ensuring the highest quality
- Experience in the AIA phases of design: conceptual, schematic, design development and construction documents
- High degree of knowledge of construction materials, construction methodologies, integration of engineering disciplines, cost studies, biddings, cost calculations, quotes, terms of reference and encodings.
- Present ideas and design concepts in a way that fulfills client´s expectations, as well as to other "key stakeholders" involved in the projects.
PROJECT COORDINATION
- Manage communication with contractors to validate the projects are being executed successfully, solving problems that may arise during all phases of the project.
- Establish project requirements to manage resources effectively and efficiently.
- Lead preliminary soil studies to meet the expectations of all customers.
COMMERCIAL ADMINISTRATION
- Identify business opportunities, trends, new clients, markets, technologies and international design standards
- Give coaching to the team when they are "out-of-flow", removing barriers and solving problems with creative and timely solutions that generate excellent working experiences
- Create and maintain solid business relationships with customers that influence a substantial increase in the invoicing
- Obtain new projects through leadership in design competitions and proposals.
- Establish expectations with clients based on milestones, invoicing, schedule, budget and scope of the projects to be developed.
- Assess and provide input on the architecture team's practice and firm performance goals
- Feed the management system with all information attaining to the projects in a timely manner and ensuring that each of the projects is progressing in accordance with the contract and the schedule of deliverables
- Prepare opex and capex budget for his area of responsibility
- Negotiate the terms and conditions of contracts with clients, ensuring the profitability of projects in along with the director of operations
- Evaluate and monitor the contracts, budgets and goals established by the Operations Department for all its projects.
OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
- Lead and manage the entire team of project architects, designers and developers of the firm, complying with the quality guidelines in project management
- Collaborate with all members of your team and other teams and area managers, to ensure that projects are developed and completed on time and within budget
- Work across multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining first class timely management, service excellence and broad business orientation
- Build trust with customers, suppliers, consultants and contractors to maintain excellent relationships that translate into the satisfaction of all parties involved
Requirements to be a Director of Architecture at Mallol:
- Bachelor of Science in Architecture
- Master's degree in the area of Architecture / Project Management
- More than 15 years of experience
- High degree of sensitivity and understanding of design and the history of architecture in general
- Hands on experience of 2D/3D software (AutoCAD / Revit / Rhino / etc.)
- Knowledge and experience in the creative phase and conceptual/schematic design of residential projects, residential towers, mixed-use projects, corporate, shopping centers, educational centers, cultural centers, transportation terminals, hospitals, infrastructure projects and other megaprojects
- Focused on service excellence
- Advanced written and spoken command of the Spanish and English languages.
- Excellent design and presentation skills to come up with creative ideas and solutions with a strong detail orientation.
- Problem-solving: Ability to solve problems by finding solutions to challenges that arise during the design phases.
- Organizational skills that allow keeping track of projects, effective delegation and empowerment to team members.
- Proven design experience in more than 3 countries (can be replaced by large cities) in America, preferably in Latin America.
- Understanding and exposure to multicultural environments
- Leadership skills to motivate the team and cultivate an effective and efficient work philosophy that generates results and employee satisfaction.
- Verbal and written communication skills both to address the team to successfully transmit ideas to clients and vice versa
